The Perfect Day In Fish Creek

Summer is near, which means (hopefully) so is your trip to Door County! And with endless options of things to do and see while you’re visiting the peninsula, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming to plan your itinerary.

As Door County experts, we’re here to help you plan the best trip possible, starting with where you stay! Door Destinations Properties is proud to offer three different beautiful properties throughout the area: The Fish Creek Beach House, Egg Harbor Haven, and our newest property in Fish Creek. All three have their own unique experience, so we suggest a visit to each over time! :)

But today we’re providing you with the ultimate itinerary for a day in Fish Creek for your next trip to the Beach House. And the best part? You’ll never even have to get in your car! Here’s the list…you can also save this video as a reference!

Fish Creek Itinerary

Wake up at the Beach House

A perfect day begins from the moment you wake up! Ease into the day with a beautiful view of the beach + Lake Michigan on your patio.

Grab Breakfast at Blue Horse

We’re not kidding when we say the Beach House is located in the heart of downtown Fish Creek. You’ll be right next door to one of everyone’s favorite spots, Blue Horse Beach Cafe. Beat the line and order your coffee + breakfast ahead on their website. You can’t go wrong with anything there, but we feel compelled to let you know that they do make their own breakfast sausage…and if you’re early enough to grab a cinnamon roll, consider yourself lucky!

You can then take your morning fuel back to your patio, or across the street to one of the picnic tables by the beach. Enjoy as you hear the birds chirping, people chatting, and the boats getting ready to take on the day!

Shop Along Main Street

One of the best parts of downtown Fish Creek is that everything is so close! You’ll find adorable shops just steps from where you enjoyed your breakfast. There are always new stores popping up, but we’ll highlight a few of our favorites for you:

  • Sisten Golden: Unique treasures from handmade rugs and cards to coffee mugs, candles, and jewelry. Their creativity has made national headlines, being featured in HGTV, Better Homes & Gardens, Apartment Therapy, and more!

  • Fred & Co: Decided you needed a new sweater or pair of shoes on your trip? Look no further! This store has cozy sweatshirts (remember, Wisconsin summer nights can still feel a bit cool), quality leather shoes and purses, and beautiful dresses if you just want something new to wear on your trip.

  • Wink: Be the best dressed on the beach with a swimsuit or coverup from Wink!

  • Bayside Shop: Grab a fun Door County souvenir or unique gift at this shop.

  • Spruce: Big city designers and name brands in a quaint small-town boutique! You’ll be pleasantly surprised with the amazing selection this small store has to offer. A little something from Spruce will be something you’ll always cherish from your trip!

  • Rummele's: While they’re only open in-season, it’s certainly worth stopping to check out the designer jewelry, watches, and other high-end accessories!

Take a Break for Lunch

You’ve worked up an appetite, time for a delicious lunch at Hill Street. You’re going to want to get the burger after you see it 👀 …but realistically, you can’t go wrong with anything there! A note that they do not do additions or substitutions; it’s kind of their thing. Everything was made the way it is for a reason, so just order and enjoy!

Shopping Continues at Founders Square

If you’re up for a few more shops, Founders Square has an array of even more stores. Here you’ll find things like Door County-themed apparel, local olive oils and things, handmade goods, home accessories, and more! If you want to get some extra steps in, keep walking toward the water to either Sunset Park or the marina.

Back to the Beach House

Time to head back “home” to unload all your purchases and relax a bit. Enjoy the patio, rest up for the evening ahead, and get ready for dinner. By now the day-trip crowds will dissipate and you’ll notice the streets start to get much less crowded. Thankfully you’re there to stay and enjoy!

Dinner + Drinks

It’s time to indulge in some classic Wisconsin traditions at Barringer's! We’d suggest starting with drinks on their beautiful outdoor patio (don’t miss their old fashioned…the best one in Door County! If you don’t know how to order, just say “whiskey old fashioned press with olives” and thank me later ;). After you’ve had a drink or two, step inside for dinner and enjoy a lovely meal. The classic Wisconsin fish fry is a staple for a reason, but their menu includes something everyone will love!

Nightcap

I couldn’t mention a perfect day in Fish Creek without talking about Bayside Tavern! Pop into this quintessential Wisconsin bar for one final drink (or an order of cheese curds). A true Door County treasure, this spot attracts tourists and locals alike and was even named best small-town bar in Wisconsin.
